Myths and facts about alleged Mayan Prophecies

In the mid-90s in the Argentine cable channel called Infinity a TV program was shown; "The 7 Mayan Prophecies", by Fernando Malkun, producer and lecturer in Colombia, which aroused great expectations in the TV audience all around the world. This work aroused the interest of many young people, wishing to learn something about the wisdom of this great culture, which now is being revalued; everything to do with this subject is having huge TV ratings. On one hand this has been beneficial, as I am sure that tourism has benefited from it. I known many people who decided to come to Mexico and Central America driven by the desire to get to these places; to feel the spirit of the Maya in the beautiful places that remained as testimony of his great wisdom. On the other hand, media has created a large distortion which I do not consider beneficial at all, with all the fantasies created by others, far exceed the reality of what our Mayan culture states.

Being in a time of concern over the renewed spirituality, this need has created many adherents to the various spiritual schools of thought, whether traditional, new age or mixed, the  "New Age" doctrines of are becoming very popular. Real or fake mediums or gurus have benefited as well. New fans, those who blindly accept all the theories keep increasing, leading to good business, but those leaders and gurus do not always tell the truth and his followers tend to fill the voids in their head of new myths.

The time has come to know the true words of Chilam Ah, the Mayan prophet. The world should understand his real language; images and symbols. He foresight a future where his message  was understood. This message, emanating from the knowledge of the mechanics of cosmic movement, coupled with the perceived view from a calm mind, was offered from the essential source of life. This is part of the mission we have; those who are familiar with the language of K'in Ah, Ah Ah Chilam Menes and we have to share his words trying his right meaning to be understood.

Let's pull apart the content of the prophecies; those recognized as the original sources and the other, the ones broadcasted on television and the Internet. We do not want when the time comes to disappoint anyone; believers of the new texts who did not see happening what was expected, blaming the Mayans creators of the 7 prophecies. The "Maya Prophecy" has to do with its calendar wheels, that is why is arranged in what we call "Prophetic Wheels ", just as shown in the Chilam Balam Books. CHI means talk, LAM deep and  BALAM hidden. If we want do things right, we should not speak of "The Seven Mayan Prophecies," but off a minimum of 13; every one of them with their own calendar due time. The Master HK'inyah , taught: in the manuscripts of Chilam Balam the Ahau Katunes well-defined Cycle, is 24 Haabs (cycles of 365 days); 13 of these cycles make up a Prophetic Wheel of 312 Haabs, we have sufficient proof of these .. For the times that we are witnessing we should be particularly  interested in 3 of these 13 cycles, all of 24 years or haabs (Mayan years).

In 1968 started the 12 Ahau Katun; in 1992 Katun 10 Ahau, which ends by 2016 following by 8 Ahau Katun which is the next cycle we will live in, this is a Katun bringing drastic changes as shown in the past; from May 6 2016 until April 30 2040.

Trough many centuries, the Mayans have realized that there are similar processes every 312 years (5 times 52 years), and based their observations on the planet's cycles and synchronicity;  especially in Jupiter and Venus, which affect predominantly the cycles of sunspots. We could have a more detailed talk about the studies made of the sunspots; its relation to climate changes and historical events of mankind. We can show the Maya understood how these impact and change the life of the planet. Based on these natural changes, Mayas developed their calendar wheels and their prophecies.

It is not enough to get statements from texts provided by the worldwide media, like:

"The Maya knew this would happen and why they left us a message engraved in stone."

To begin with these assertions always suffer from a precise inidcation of sources. We need to know from which "stela" they come and explain with epigraphy their interpretation; the interpretation system used to read the glyphs and even though it may be questionable. It is also well known by all who study the Mayan sources, the only known prophecies are in the books known as the "Chilam Balam." 7 prophecies have to talk about 7 times 24 years, or 168 years. I will speak first of the new apocryphal texts:

First Prophecy

"The world of hatred and materialism will end on Saturday 22 December 2012 and with it the end of fear."
